Hello. I have a HP laptop with Windows XP home on it. I've had it for a few years and have had no problems. Anyway tonight all of a sudden it won't start up properly. I can't see anything so does anybody know how I can get it to restart? If you can tell me what to press when, that would hopefully be enough. Thanks in advance.
I was advised by somebody who has since logged out to press F8 after turning on the machine and selecting safe mode. How do I get to safe mode? do I press tab, down arrow? how many times do I press the button?
Is it a dv6000 or a dv9000 by any chance?
Do you hear drive activity when the machine is turned on? Not just the sound of the drive spinning, but can you hear it doing stuff?
I've found out that there is a problem with the graphics card. The computer is off for repair but now I have another problem which I'll explain in a new topic.
I'm afraid you more or less got conned on that repare - I give it 4/5 months tops before it fails again.
I know exactly what computer you have, I know exactly what's wrong with it and why it's broken and I'm 99.9% sure that I know how there going to fix it.
If I were you, I'd ask for it back and try to only pay a diagnostic fee. Then just ebay it and buy a new one.
